It should be generated by the following rule in the gcc/Makefile: gencheck.h : s-gencheck ; @true Can you read the install specific notes for Solaris, and follow ALL the instructions, especially the part about setting CONFIG_SHELL to /bin/ksh and not /bin/sh.
