    libgcc.a should be installed in $prefix/lib/gcc-lib/$target/$version/.
    If that didn't happen, something's wrong.
    
    That said, note that the shared libgcc default is with the
    "g++" driver program, not the "gcc" driver program.  A point
    of possible confusion that appears to be present in your
    problem description.
