 Confirmed by Rainer Orth (ro@TechFak.Uni-Bielefeld.DE) on 
 i386-pc-solaris28 default configured (SEGV due to a stack overflow).
 
 OTOH, *not* reproduced on alpha-dec-osf4.0f and mips-sgi-irix6.5 
 (besides i686-pc-linux-gnu).
 
 I have recategorized the PR as "target".
