 Hi,
 
 the compiler does not actually hang up, it just takes *much* longer
 (almost 50 times):
 
   compile time with 3.1: 3.6s
   compile time with trunk: 169s
 
 using a 600 MHz Pentium III (i686-pc-linux-gnu).
