GCC has been bootstrapped with the bundled cc, at least in those cases when the bootstrap compiler is mentioned at all. I therefore suppose that this version of Compaq C may miscompile the stage1 compiler. Could you please try to use Compaq C V6.5 from the Developer's Toolkit Supplement: http://www.tru64unix.compaq.com/dtk/compaqc_ov.html This version requires the OSF-DEV license PAK, though, so you should verify its presence before trying to use the new compiler.
