Can you say exactly what line you are looking for? With both 2.95 and 3.0 and both gcc and g++, I get a line .stabs "i:(0,1)",128,0,3,-4 in the output. Also, note that since gcc3.2, dwarf2 is the default debug format, so the point may be moot (although we might still want to fix it for systems that still use stabs).
