There is advice in the INSTALL/specifics.html section to add '-save-temps' to CFLAGS. Unfortunately this doesn't say which CFLAGS and in any case attempting to follow this simply results in a failure with the inability to see this as a valid flag. Advice appreciated - it's also possible to give people an account on this irix 5.3 box for gcc testing purposes.
