I just built and installed egcs from CVS as of 1998/05/01 19:00:42
MEST with pretty much encouraging results: NO unexpected failures for
both gcc and g++ on i586-linux-gnulibc1.
I wrote and sent my usual report mail, but somehow sendmail goofed the
mailqueue :-(
As I don't have the complete logs, here's a summary:
- No unexpected failure for
libio
libstdc++
libg++
gcc
g++
- libg++'s dhrystone tests give 4% better results than egcs-1.0.2
- kernel 2.1.99 is 6KB smaller than egcs-1.0.2 compiled one
Impressed by the test results, I recompiled the 2.1.99 kernel using
this compiler, rebooted and: WOW, everything is working perfectly
well! Looks, like we can signal all-clear on Linux now!

How come I got
xgcc: Internal compiler error: program cc1 got fatal signal 6
FAIL: gcc.c-torture/compile/950613-1.c, -O0
on i586-linux-gnulibc1 with egcs in CVS on 980502 at 15:30pm PST.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention, that I've applied several patches. One of
them is Jim Wilson's float patch `Re: More fp bug in egcs'.
