egcs-ss-19980621 is now available on
egcs.cygnus.com:/pub/egcs/snapshots/1998-06-21

(and on various mirrors, see the egcs home page for mirror sites).

You'll find:

  egcs-19980621.tar.gz The full egcs snapshot, including all
                                        languages runtime libraries and
                                        testsuites.

  egcs-core-19980621.tar.gz Just the C and objc language front
                                        ends.

  egcs-g++-19980621.tar.gz The g++ language and runtime.

  egcs-g77-19980621.tar.gz The g77 language and runtime.

  egcs-objc-19980621.tar.gz             The objc runtime.

  egcs-testsuite-19980621.tar.gz        The c & g++ testusites.
  egcs-g++-testsuite-19980621.tar.gz    The g++ testsuite.
  egcs-g77-testsuite-19980621.tar.gz    The g77 testsuite.

Diffs to bring the 19980615 to 19980621 snapshot are available.

Note at times you may find newer directories on the server with limited
permissions. These represent snapshots that have not yet been verified
as correct, or are known to be incorrect.

When a particular snapshot is ready for public consumption the directory
permissions are relaxed, the LATEST-IS- file is updated and a message is
sent to the egcs list.

Using a snapshot before it's officially made available is an unwise thing
to do since it may become impossible to update to an official snapshot.

The "egcs_latest_snapshot" tag has been moved. You can use
cvs update -regcs_latest_snapshot to update your CVS tree to the latest
official snapshot.

Using bzip2 would save me a little time downloading :)

Note that in the CVS repository, I found a few empty directories
that are not in the egcs-19980621.tar.gz snapshot:

gcc/f/gbe
gcc/f/runtime
gcc/f/runtime/libF77
gcc/f/runtime/libI77
gcc/f/runtime/libU77

According to the ChangeLog.egcs:

Tue Feb  3 20:13:05 1998  Richard Henderson  <rth@cygnus.com>

        * config-lang.in: Remove references to runtime/.

Sun Feb  1 02:26:58 1998  Richard Henderson  <rth@cygnus.com>

        * runtime directory -- moved into "libfc2" in the toplevel
        directory.
        * Make-lang.in: Remove all runtime related stuff.

gcc/f/INSTALL makes several references to files that would be in
gcc/f/gbe or gcc/f/runtime, but none is there.

* Apperently, gcc/f/runtime/* should be removed from the repository.
  I can't find anything in the ChangLog about a removal of gcc/f/gbe
  though - but it might be needed to remove that too.
* gcc/f/INSTALL needs updating.

Regards,

Carlo

Right. The runtime library used to be a subdir of the fortran front
end.

Right.  It's somewhat dated.

Nope. If we remove it from the repository we'd be unable to do things
like check out the source for an older snapshot if we needed to do so.
Or spin another egcs-1.0.x release if the need arised.

Yes, the docs need updating. That's a pretty general program throughout
the compiler.
