I did build egcs 1.1.2 for HP-UX 10.20 hppa1.1 (on an hppa2.0
machine), with gas 2.9.1.
I had some problems, which I reported at length to this list, but no
show-stopper.
My config status (from an egcs-1.1.2-hppa1.1-bld directory) says:
../egcs-1.1.2/configure --with-gcc-version-trigger=/tools/contrib/gen/src/egcs-1.1.2/gcc/version.c --host=hppa1.1-hp-hpux10.20 --prefix=/tools/contrib/HP-UX/B.10.20/hppa1.1/packages/egcs --enable-shared --enable-haifa --with-gnu-as --norecursion
