Isn't __something reserved for C library namespace (in contrast to
__something__)? If so, we should get rid of them, not add them.

Well, I will only leave it out if the other platforms change this as well 
(and change it for gcc-2.95.3), esp. x86. I definitely don't want to carry 
this around as a special thing for Linux/PPC that may break applications 
(eg. vixie-cron) and then argue with the maintainers :-(.

I don't believe there's a distinction made between the library
namespace and the compiler namespace.
