I am looking to embed some SQL statements into my c code but am unaware if I
need any specfic sql headers\libriaries, pre-compilers, native db drivers
etc.. to allow me to do this on a unix box.

Any hints or suggestions please?

I'd suggest looking at the documentation for the database you intend to
use.

You will need the specific database headers, libraries and possibly
precompiler for your database.
