I compiled gcc 2.95.2 on Alpha Tru64 5.0a and it installed successfully after a lot of tinkering and having trouble with many errors.
config.guess gives this:
alphaev56-dec-osf5.0
but the true version is actually 5.0a
the most notable tweak I had to make was to the gcc/configure and it now compiles properly.
There are still many warnings though.
