I have completed testing on GNU/Linux and on IRIX. The Solaris build
is still going -- it's a pretty slow SPARC that I'm playing with. I
did a build a couple of days ago, so I don't expect real problems.
I haven't had a chance to work on the AIX issues yet.
I plan to go out for a few hours, come back, and check in the patch to
do the switch.
Please continue to consider the tree slushy until that time.
Thanks,

I'm running a V3/IRIX bootstrap right now. If I see the same problem,
I'll fix it. Otherwise, we'll have to see what's different about your
IRIX box from the one I'm using. (It's possible there are real
differences; "my" IRIX box is a 4000-node supercomputer with funky
hardware; it may well have slightly different headers or something.)
I also don't do --enable-pthreads; one step at a time.

I can't build V3 on irix6.5. See

Folks --
I am planning to make the switch to V3 today.
To that end, I would like people to be very careful checking things
in today. The tree is not frozen completely, but please do avoid any
major disturbances.
Here is the procedure I am planning on doing:
- Verify that V3 builds on IRIX 6.5, Solaris 2.8, and Red Hat 6.2.
- Verify that make check-g++ produces similar (hopefully no
regressions) with and without V3.
- Make changes as required to make these conditions true.
- Investigate, and try to fix, template issues that David Edelsohn
has brought to my attention that are causing troubles on AIX.
This step is tricky because I do not have convenient access to an
AIX box.
At that point, we'll throw the switch. I do not anticipate major
problems, but there may be some. We will work those out in the coming
days -- this is necessary pain, and we cannot put it off forever.
Thanks,
