FreeBSD would need a release with updated C++ ABI by Sept 1, 2002 at the
very latest.
That also assumes that there aren't major regressions in said release.
Example of things that we couldn't have happen with a Sept 1st compiler
are things like:
* the "#pragma weak" bug that caused stock XFree86 4.2.0 to not compile
* the reload bug that could only be avoided by compiling XFree86 with -O0
* that requested alignment isn't obeyed and thus boot blocks can't be
made small enough
* that with every GCC upgrade we have to tweak our in-line asm statements
* anything that would cause 20% of our 8000 3rd-party packages (The Ports
Collection) to no longer build.
