I have prepared a new set of prerelease tarballs. These are in:

  ftp://gcc.gnu.org/pub/gcc/snapshots/

and have 20010613 in their name. This version should fix many of
the problems Joseph reported regarding permissions, the NEWS file,
and so forth.

Joseph, if you get a chance, would you take a look to verify the
fixes by examining the generated tarballs?

Thanks,

BUGS and GNATS (i.e., plain text versions of bugs.html and gnats.html)
are not yet generated automatically, but I'm just testing a patch to
the gcc_release script that does just that.

This does indeed fix the main issues. What's left are just the issues
only applying to a release proper:

* Updating all the ChangeLogs on the branch just before tagging for the
release.

* Changing all the [vV]ersion.c files (all those updated by
update_version) to give status as "release" not "prerelease" or
"experimental", for the release only, then changing them back to 3.0.1
"prerelease" on the branch just afterwards.

* Of course, the release needs to have an appropriate tag in the
repository.

(I needed to make the files in question world-readable on gcc.gnu.org - so
perhaps the script should also ensure they get the appropriate permissions
there.)

Actually, that tarball doesn't seem to include the HTML versions of
bugs.html and gnats.html, either.

Yes, I'll do that.

My run probably started before Gerald's checkin. That should
be fixed in the next run.

Thanks,
