Dear GCC Team:

Would it be possible to get a copy of GCC 2.8.1? We have software built
with that version, but nobody bothered to keep a copy of the package!

Thanks,

If you really need it you can find it in the directory old-releases/gcc-2/ of
any mirror ( http://gcc.gnu.org/mirrors.html )

Cheers,
Paolo.

This both silly and annoying.

All good Sun users should have http://www.sunfreeware.com bookmarked.

Among other things it has binary copies of many of the older EGCS/GCCs.
If you can't find your particular version (like GCC 2.8.1 for Solaris
8), then just go to one of the previous OS revisions (Solaris 7) and it
will almost certainly work, since unlike certain a Seattle area firm,
Sun Microsystems is very big into backward compatibility.

BTW, this was a RTFWP: http://gcc.gnu.org/install/binaries.html

Hello,

I'm in need of an older version of gcc, namely v2.8.1 for solaris.

I could not find this anywhere on the web site. Is there a repository
I am missing?

Thanks a lot!

To whom it may concern,
Please let me know whether you manufacture GCC 2.8.1? What is the price of
this?

Thank you.

GCC is free software (see http://www.gnu.org for what that exactly means).

Please have a look at our homepage at http://gcc.gnu.org , from where you
can also download GCC. (Note that the current version is 2.95.2, 2.8.1 is
quite old.)

One more pointer: Our gcc releases are in source code form. To obtain
a working compiler, you either have to compile the compiler yourself,
or you have to get a binary version from some place.

One manufacturer for compiler *binaries* is the FSF, see
http://www.fsf.org/order/order.html . I think the 5th edition of the
Compiler Tools CD should contain gcc 2.8.1.

Regards,
Martin
