what is it with the crappy logo of the bull and egg, i mean, really, 
the GCC home page is embarrassing to say  the least in a design sense

My two cents:
The logo is fine.  I just wish it weren't a low-quality JPEG.  An 8-bit PNG
would look better and would be about the same file size.

Agreed. The artifacting burns my eyes. I'd much rather see an 8-bit PNG
version. It would be small, but more importantly, it would make a stronger
statement against GIFs. (http://burnallgifs.org/)

I traced the original image and made a fresh, extremely high resolution
copy.  Here's an 8-bit PNG roughly the same dimensions as the current image.
