I remember that the last merge had several problem areas which couldn't be
merged, including all of java.
What is the status of these various problem areas? Could someone check? :-)
I'm wondering, of course, what needs to be done before the merge tag
actually signfies how up-to-date the merge is (so that it's reasonable
to hope for another merge).

Java has been merged as of 10/5.

The main problem area is bootstraping on different targets (like
powerpc-apple-darwin).
The other problem area is speed and memory usage.
