Hi,

Your short film on US television, with international distribution follow-thru:

As an active distributor of feature length films and television series in the United States of America, Australasia, Europe, and South Africa, Imaginites is looking to short films as part of one of its initiatives this and next year to discover and showcase new and exciting filmmakers.

Imaginites has signed to produce a thirteen-part x 56 minutes TV series for distribution in the USA/North America territory (with eventual distribution throughout the world, Australasia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, etc.) for broadcast in 2003/2004. The US TV-partnered show has been pre-licensed and is being sponsored by international advertising brands.

The show is provisionally called ''Mind Ignite” and centers around unusual and farsighted short story concepts, and innovative storytelling techniques, showcasing the works of established filmmakers, and brilliant emerging short filmmakers from all over the world.

The show will feature only the trendiest and most avante gard short films, certainly films that cast new light on the short story telling format.

Imaginites Limited is seeking approximately 588 shorts from all over the world, and anticipates including approximately 196 selected shorts for the series to make up 689 minutes of estimated screen-time; 39 minutes devoted to credit “top and tails” across 13 episodes.

The show is hosted by the star of “Critters” and “Floating Outfit”, actor Todd Jensen, who will do a similar spiel to Rod Serling in Twilight Zone.

Criteria
Length: All short films must be between “any length and 28 minutes in length” we may consider longer films for serialization.
Format: Any format: 35mm; 16mm; DV; mini-DV; SP; Super-8mm; 8mm, etc.
Genres: All genres are welcome! The show has a tendency towards action-adventure; science fantasy; science fiction; thrillers; and clever horrors. Powerful situational films with strong performances and extraordinary camera work are given priority. Any film with a clever twist is automatically a must-see by our target viewers. Of course really superb drama pieces will be included, as well as other genres of films wherein the filmmakers have excelled in telling in the art of story telling. Different genre films will be spread across each of the episodes so that the audience will come to anticipate variety of story-telling modes, formats and genres from a series like this.

We trust that this series will create a cult following and that it will give to commercial and first time filmmakers the opportunity of getting their works showcased alongside one another. Gauging from the films that have already been submitted, there are some extraordinary international filmmakers that will get noticed by channel heads of programming and studio executives.

Imaginites Limited saw the need to produce a vehicle for filmmakers to get their films showcased to a wider international (principally US) audience, and in turn get personal notice and acknowledgment for their films. International audiences will be enthralled by this cutting-edge anthology series of only the most extraordinary short film stories.

In week thirteen, audiences will be able to vote for their favorite top ten short films, and the filmmakers will be awarded prizes for their films. On the cards (in the planning stage) is a trip to Warner Brothers Studios in Australia, where several hit films have been produced.

For the filmmakers themselves, producer/director teams are paid a part-payment of the total license fee worked out pro-rata to the number of screen minutes that their films are on the screen. This pro-rata license fee is payable as many times as the show continues to go to air.

Also, any future licenses sold to broadcasters in other countries, etc. will also attract royalties to the producers/directors of the films. A record of these are made available annually to the producers/directors. Additional licenses sold will accrue royalties to the producers/directors and an auditing firm will be appointed to ensure payment of ongoing royalties.

The executive producers of the series, say that the show is not a profit making venture initially, though a degree of profitability for an on-going series is envisioned. We hope to share in the success of this series with the network of filmmakers that have pulled their resources to see this series go to air.

With all submissions of films, Imaginites Limited is requesting the inclusion of details of the production, and any possible festivals it may have been submitted to, and any awards it may have won, as details of these will feature at the start of the film. Press Kits are welcome featuring publicity stills – as these may appear on international advertisements for the series, or in program logs.

The website details of all contributing short film festivals and sponsors will be featured in the credit rolls of the series.

The 1 x season series will be shown on international television networks, cable and eventually make its way to home video. Royalties will continue to accrue to filmmakers whose films feature on Mind Ignite.

Filmmakers must ensure that they submit as follows:
1. The Film(s)
2. Press Kit – featuring synopsis, film production information, production stills, awards and festivals submissions information
3. Clearances for all music and sound bites
4. Artists release forms (because copies of these are requested, and producers are held responsible in the event of any copyright disputes)
5. A signed copy of the NON-EXCLUSIVE LICENSING AGREEMENT will be asked for AFTER we have received your film and our committee has selected it for inclusion in the series.

NTSC, SECAM or PAL is fine for submissions, however please submit a PAL standard VHS/DIGITAL BETACAM as post production is being done in Australia (PAL) and it will save us time going through the many hundreds of entries.

The per minute price payable for films varies. Different networks are paying varying rates depending on the times of day or night that they broadcast. Royalties will span a minimum of 7 years from date of first broadcast.

Imaginites Limited is also accepting feature film cut-downs for possible inclusion in the series compilation. It is a good idea to edit a section out of a feature film that you feel could work as a short film, then add top and tail with credits.

Once the films have arrived at our office and have been selected by a panel, filmmakers whose films have been selected will be sent a copy of the NON-EXCLUSIVE licensing agreement.

Please note that due to the vast number of entries and submissions being received weekly, it is virtually impossible for Imaginites production team members to contact any of the producer/director teams by return email. Only in very exceptional cases, or in the event of top priority mailings, will Imaginites return emails.

MIND IGNITE “Showcasing tomorrows filmmakers…”

Pushing the envelope of the imagination, MIND IGNITE is the first TV series to showcase tomorrow’s filmmakers today.

“When you have a budget you can be creative, when you have no budget you have to be creative…” Arthur Schoenberg, Executive Producer, MIND IGNITE.

Filmmakers Vehicle

For filmmakers looking to get their films in front of millions of viewers, this is by far the most exciting TV series developed in recent times showcasing dynamic never-before-exposed talent. MIND IGNITE will be seen by millions of viewers between 2003 – 2004 when it premieres in the USA and then across Canada, and then continues to get shown in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Asia (including India) and Africa. Over 18 million viewers may see the show over the next five years, and that's without the show continuing on to syndication. At the moment the producers of the series are negotiating with networks around the world to air the show in what will quite literally be one of the most exciting showcase vehicles ever devised to get new filmmaking talents seen before millions of eyes.

Extraordinary Platform

Imaginites Limited has to date received several hundred entries, and has already provisionally selected about 50 films that will make it into episodes 1 – 13. A variety of films from different genres have been selected, from action-adventure to horror, from love stories to touching human dramas. MIND IGNITE is about innovative approaches to filmmaking and storytelling; this is a show where there are quite literally no rules. Guerrilla filmmakers and main stream filmmakers meet on the same platform and vaunt their wares. The series has become a compilation of the most unusual shorts that you are ever likely to see, some immensely watch-able and others overtly weird for shock-impact.

National Television & Syndication - Circulation & Distribution

Showcasing the most dynamic filmmakers of all time. Picking from the very VERY best of filmmakers and talent – shown to over 18 million viewers, MIND IGNITE will be heavily circulated through the Hollywood-studio system, and throughout the film industry world – to talent agencies, and agents, to studio executives, at markets, and available for distribution to retail.

Royalties

The calculation of the royalties for each of the contributing filmmakers has been kept simple. Royalties payable to the filmmakers are worked out pro-rata to the number of screen-time minutes they each contribute across the entire 728 minutes (minus 39 minutes for credits across 13 episodes). One of the world’s largest accounting firms will handle the payouts of all royalties directly… in fact, the entire process of royalty payouts is handled by an accounting firm… from moneys earned from any sales of licenses of the show, and its production runs. That way, the production company is freed up from the day to day business of dealing with royalties issues. Imaginites purely packages the series, markets and sells it. The filmmakers are the true stars of the show.

Exposure

For exposure, MIND IGNITE is quite literally the ideal platform for filmmakers everywhere that have not been noticed yet due to their geography or other circumstance, from young up and coming, to established names as well…

We look forward to seeing your short films.
