I can report similiar behaviour with yesterday's CVS snapshot under FreeBSD 2.2-980105 when compiling some of my code. Interestingly, cc1plus did not terminate (in finite time), but the CPU load was close to 0 with nearly no IO as well... Today I went back to 1.77 for cp/decl.c and the problem is gone. (I also updated to today's CVS snapshot, should that matter.)
