Hi,

The GCC Compile Farm project is pleased to announce that two bi-quad
core machines with the latest Opteron 8354 "Barcelona B3" processor and
16GB of RAM donated by AMD are now available online in datacenter space
kindly donated by INRIA Saclay.

All in all, gcc11 to gcc17 provide 38 64-bits cores to GCC and Free
Software developpers including 3 octo-core machines with GCC trunk
bootstrap times for all languages including Ada in the 20 minutes range.

Procedure to apply for an account on the GCC Compile Farm is available
here:

http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/CompileFarm

Feel free to pass the word to other free software projects as well,
there are currently 39 accounts on the farm.

Many thanks to the following people and organisation who made
this setup possible:

- Sebastian Pop and Christophe Harle of AMD for donating the two
machines

- Albert Cohen, Sylvain Girbal and Philippe Lubrano of INRIA Saclay
for donating hosting and setup help

- Loic Dachary and Eva Mathieu of FSF France for handling orders of
various equipment including an UPS.

Sincerely,

Laurent

Isn't this worth an entry on the GCC news page?

Richard.

If there's consensus, I can certainly propose a patch.

Sincerely,

Please do. We should thank people for significant contributions.

For this, I think Laurent deserves significant thanks, as well.

Fully agreed. For some reason many here tend to be very shy when it
comes to that, so thanks for Richi for raising this in this case.

"developers".

Also, the FSF has rather restrictive linking rules, so I don't think the
patch can include the link to AMD's site (the link to INRIA should be
fine).

Since we can't give AMD a link, we could at least list them first.
Perhaps something like

AMD has generously donated two bi-quad core machines with the
latest Opteron 8354 "Barcelona B3" processor and 16GB of RAM
to the GCC Compile Farm project

I have no objection to the change.

We would like to have the name of the department that provided these
machines in the announce. Is the following wording acceptable?

AMD Developer Central has generously donated two bi-quad core
machines with the latest AMD Opteron 8354 "Barcelona B3" processors
and 16GB of RAM to the GCC Compile Farm
project for use by free software developers. Hosting is donated

Fine with me. If it's OK with you Gerald, I guess just apply it.

This looks good, please go ahead, let's just remove "generously".

(Not because the donation is not generous, but many other parties
have been doing donations as well, of code, people and infrastructure,
and we want to keep the acknowledgements simple and consistent.)

Ah, and pleaes make the link to the Wiki an absolute one. We also
have an instance of the web page, but not the Wiki, running on the
www.gnu.org server and there may be further mirrors.

Thanks,
Gerald
