Subject: Making up for a release mistake in GDB versions 6.7 - 7.3
Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2011 04:22:00 -0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <E1R9U0w-0004KF-07@fencepost.gnu.org> (raw)

The FSF hereby grants permission to distribute the old GDB releases
numbered 6.7 through 7.3 notwithstanding the absence therein of the
real source files for certain CPU descriptions. This permission
extends to versions with unrelated modifications, provided those
versions comply with GNU GPL version 3 in all other respects.

These source files were published all along, formerly in
http://sourceware.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/src/cgen/cpu/?cvsroot=src,
now in http://sourceware.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb.cgi/src/cpu/?cvsroot=src.
The problem is that they were not included in these GDB releases as
they should have been.

Thanks to some of the improvements in GPL version 3, we don't need to
explicitly forgive past violations caused by redistributing those old
versions, because those violations would only have consequences for
the redistributors if the FSF were to complain about them to the
redistributors within 60 days of such redistribution. The FSF commits
not to complain about this problem.

Corrected tar files have been placed on ftp.gnu.org for all these
versions. The corrected tar files do not have the problem because
they contain the source files for these CPU descriptions. The FSF
urges all redistributors to upgrade as soon as possible to the revised
tar files. The corrected files have an `a' in their names after the
version number, as in gdb-7.3a.tar.gz.
