Hello,

I think we can make the 8.1.1 release pretty soon. We have two options.
Either:

  (a) Include a simplified version of PR symtab/23010, and then release;

      For the record, this is:
[KeithS] PR symtab/23010 (Regression: Assertion: SYMBOL_LANGUAGE (sym) ==[...]

  (b) Release as is.

PR symtab/23010 is now fixed in the gdb-8.2-branch, and I think 8.2
is not too far off. So I don't think we really need to do (a),
particularly since the issue is not very common; we can just keep
PR symtab/23010 as a documentation that the problem affects 8.1.1.

There is a third alternative:

  (c) Actually not release at all!

The number of fixes on that branch was very small, and now
8.2 is getting very close; so I'm not sure how many people
would stay on 8.1.1 rather than 8.2.

Given that this is just a couple of hours of my time, unless we're
sure it would be useless, I propose we still go ahead with the 8.1.1
release.

Thoughts? For now, I'm thinking of going with (b)...

Thanks!

I think any of these choices seems reasonable.
Are there other things in 8.1.1 that would be release-worthy?
If not I suppose that would narrow it down to "wait for 8.2".

Thanks for the feedback, Tom. The list of changes for 8.1.1 can
be found at this URL: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?list_id=43335&product=gdb&query_format=advanced&resolution=FIXED&target_milestone=8.1.1

And that was a good suggestion, as it fixes a complete breakage
of GDBserver on Windows. And still speaking of GDBserver, there was
a small change of behavior that Sergio fixed as well.

So worth a release, I would say.

This is fine with me.
