I got the message: Reading symbols from /usr/bin/firefox...(no debugging symbols found)...done.
That's from when wanting to run Firefox using gdb.
This shouldn't happen.

I don't understand what is wrong. /usr/bin/firefox probably doesn't have debug info. Do you have the debuginfo package installed? If so, does gdb mention it at startup?
