The current gdb cvs can build a running binary on x86_64-apple-darwin10 using the commands...
../src/configure --disable-werror --build=x86_64-apple-darwin10 --target=x86_64-apple-
darwin10 --target=x86_64-apple-darwin10 --prefix=/Users/howarth/gdb_cvs/dist
The resulting gdb produces the following output when trying to debug an x86_64 binary built with
debug code generation...
[Macintosh-2:~] howarth% ./gdb_cvs/dist/bin/gdb ./a.out

This has been fixed in 7.0 or 7.1 (I don't remember exactly when).
