Turns out Joel did this for 7.7.  AIX now uses the same mechanisms as all other
ports, so this is most probably fixed in 7.7.  Therefore I'm closing this. 
Please reopen if you still see the same problem.

Please try mainline cvs and confirm whether the same problem persists there. 
Please attach changes as patches extracted with "cvs diff -up", and without any
unrelated changes to this problem, instead of whole modified source files.

Traced the issue to the fact that refactoring moved SOLIB_ADD() from
run_command_1() (in 5.3) to post_create_inferior() in infcmd.c:1952 and
conditionalized it on exec_bfd which is always NULL, and thus, skipped the
SOLIB_ADD() call. Not sure if this is the proper fix but it works for me.
