Did you mean that you no longer think that "this could in theory yield the
wrong answer sometimes, though." ?

This issue just came up again in a discussion Simon and I were having, and I
was also wondering whether we could make GDB skip reimporting the same offset.

It wouldn't fix the bad macro debug info in the patological case (no worse than
today), but at least it'd get us past the performance degradation.
