The fact it works with -g but not with -g3 hints that it might be the readi=
ng
of macro information that is problematic.

Some setups are known to produce wrong / pathological macro information that
cause GDB to be really slow:

It would still be surprising that it causes memory exhaustion.

I'd like to help more, but it's a bit difficult, since it's not easily
reproducible without your setup.  If you manage to reproduce with qemu (whi=
ch
has a GDB stub), it would be really helpful.
