Subject: [Bug cli/30203] New: [RFE] GDB should be able to print and complete function names with typedefs
Date: Mon, 06 Mar 2023 16:30:57 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-30203-4717@http.sourceware.org/bugzilla/> (raw)

https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=30203

            Bug ID: 30203
Summary: [RFE] GDB should be able to print and complete
                    function names with typedefs
           Product: gdb
           Version: HEAD
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: cli
Assignee: unassigned at sourceware dot org
Reporter: blarsen at redhat dot com
  Target Milestone: ---

Right now, GDB only stores the canonical names of functions which, in C++ at
least, always means that typedefs have been stripped. The problem comes when a
user tries, for instance, to print information on a function from a library and
the canonical types don't give much information, or when the user know one of
the types with the typedef, GDB will be unable to finish the completion.
