* [Bug nptl/774] New: sem_open returns ENOMEM instead of ENOSPC @ 2005-02-28 9:55 sebastien dot decugis at ext dot bull dot net 2005-02-28 17:54 ` [Bug nptl/774] " drepper at redhat dot com ` (2 more replies) 0 siblings, 3 replies; 4+ messages in thread From: sebastien dot decugis at ext dot bull dot net @ 2005-02-28 9:55 UTC (permalink / raw) To: glibc-bugs The Single Unix Specification requires that sem_open() returns ENOSPC when "there is insufficient space for the creation of the new named semaphore". Anyway, when we create named semaphores until failure, the error returned is ENOMEM. -- Summary: sem_open returns ENOMEM instead of ENOSPC Product: glibc Version: 2.3.4 Status: NEW Severity: minor Priority: P3 Component: nptl AssignedTo: drepper at redhat dot com ReportedBy: sebastien dot decugis at ext dot bull dot net CC: glibc-bugs at sources dot redhat dot com http://sources.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=774 ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

It means there is no space on a device. Of course it could mean that the spec is simply inconsistent and that it is meant, for sem_open, to denote missing memory as well. But this is anything but clear. I'll suspend the bug. Somebody needs to file an interpretation request with the Austin group to get this resolved. If you don't want to do this, close the bug since nothing will change. -- What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |SUSPENDED http://sources.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=774 ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread
