will generate segfault in glibc on all systems (i386 - i686) i have.

A null pointer is not a valid argument.

I think fstat should return -1 and set errno to EFAULT or EINVAL or something else.
The bug definitely in glibc. glibc should check such errors. In other functions
it does.
