Bug #: 13171
Summary: missing XSI declarations, such as crypt in <unistd.h>
Product: glibc
Version: 2.14
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: libc
AssignedTo: drepper.fsp@gmail.com
ReportedBy: eblake@redhat.com
Classification: Unclassified
According to POSIX 2008, crypt() and encrypt() should unconditionally be
declared in <unistd.h> by any implementation claiming to provide XSI. Yet:
$ printf '#define _POSIX_C_SOURCE 200809L\n#include <unistd.h>\n' \
| gcc -E - | grep crypt
$
shows 0 hits, and it takes _GNU_SOURCE to convince glibc that we want those
declarations. The same is true of POSIX 2001. Likewise for setkey() in
<stdlib.h>.

The XSI option is only usable when _XOPEN_SOURCE is defined with an appropriate
value (700 for SUSv4/POSIX 2008, 600 for SUSv3). _POSIX_C_SOURCE does not
request the XSI option. This is in accordance with:
