Yet: $ printf '#define _POSIX_C_SOURCE 200809L\n#include <unistd.h>\n' \ | gcc -E - | grep crypt $ shows 0 hits, and it takes _GNU_SOURCE to convince glibc that we want those declarations. The same is true of POSIX 2001.
