* [Bug network/16849] New: getaddrinfo returns EAI_NONAME instead of EAI_AGAIN for network failures @ 2014-04-16 14:02 siddhesh at redhat dot com 2014-05-15 7:08 ` [Bug network/16849] " cvs-commit at gcc dot gnu.org ` (2 more replies) 0 siblings, 3 replies; 4+ messages in thread From: siddhesh at redhat dot com @ 2014-04-16 14:02 UTC (permalink / raw) To: glibc-bugs https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16849 Bug ID: 16849 Summary: getaddrinfo returns EAI_NONAME instead of EAI_AGAIN for network failures Product: glibc Version: unspecified Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: network Assignee: siddhesh at redhat dot com Reporter: siddhesh at redhat dot com When a DNS query fails due to a network failure, the failure is considered transient for AF_INET and AF_INET6 lookups and hence EAI_AGAIN is returned. However, when the new AF_UNSPEC support was added (by using gethostbyname4_r), the returned error is EAI_NONAME. Patch coming up. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread

For AF_UNSPEC however, an older change (a682a1bf553b1efe4dbb03207fece5b719cec482) broke the check and due to that the returned error was EAI_NONAME. This patch fixes the check so that a non-authoritative not-found is returned as EAI_AGAIN to the user instead of EAI_NONAME. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary of changes: ChangeLog | 6 ++++++ NEWS | 4 ++-- sysdeps/posix/getaddrinfo.c | 3 +-- 3 files changed, 9 insertions(+), 4 deletions(-) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ^ permalink raw reply [flat|nested] 4+ messages in thread
