The fix for bug 28815 resulted in a regression in the GNU extension which says
that the resolved buffer will have the path that failed in case failure is due
to ENOENT or EACCES.
Bring back that behaviour to continue supporting the GNU extension.

Bring it back partially to continue supporting this GNU extension.
