'Aye, in yon steeple-house,' answered her companion moodily, and with no show of interest. 'Very like.' His eyes wandered from the thatched roof of the cottage to where, high above the tall old yew-trees, a slender spire pointed heavenward. Joyce laughed at the unfamiliar word. 'That is a church, not a steeple-house,' she corrected. 'Of course it has a steeple, but wherefore give it such a clumsy name?' Her companion made no reply. He seemed absorbed in a world of his own, though still leading the pony carefully. Joyce, piqued at having her presence ignored even by a village lad, determined to arouse him. 'Moreover, I have heard Priest Stephens speak of you to my father,' she went on, with a little pin-prick of emphasis on each word, though addressing her remarks apparently to no one in particular, and with her dainty head tilted in the air. Her companion turned to her at once. 'What said the Pr [-- Attachment #2: arsenious.jpg --] [-- Type: image/jpeg, Size: 14053 bytes --]

Again, before we can prove the practice to be immoral, we must prove immorality in the design of those who use it; either that they intend a deception, or to kindle unlawful desires in the beholders. But the French ladies, so far as their purpose comes in question, must be acquitted of both these charges. Nobody supposes their colour to be natural for a moment, any more than he would if it were blue or green: and this unambiguous judgment of the matter is owing to two causes; first, to the universal knowledge we have, that French women are naturally either brown or yellow, with very few exceptions; and secondly, to the inartificial manner in which they paint; for they do not, as I am most satisfactorily informed, even attempt an imitation of nature, but besmear themselves hastily, and at a venture, anxious only to lay on enough. Where therefore there is no wanton intention, nor a wish to deceive, I can discover no immorality. But in England, I am afraid, our painted ladies are not clearly entitled to the same apology. They even imitate nature with such exactness that the whole public is sometimes divided into parties, who litigate with great warmth the question whether painted or not? This was remarkably the case with a Miss E----, whom I well remember. Her roses and lilies were never discovered to be spurious, till she attained an age that made the supposition of their being natural impossible. This anxiety to be not merely red and white, which is all they aim at in France, but to be thought very beautiful, and much more beautiful than Nature has made them, is a symptom not very favourable to the idea we would wish to entertain of the chastity, purity, and modesty of our countrywomen. That they are guilty of a design to deceive is certain. Otherwise why so much art? and if to deceive, wherefore and with what purpose? It was very determined, as the division on our left had not been able to get up; our left flank was quite unprotected. "An attempt was therefore made to form a defensive flank. The counter-attack halted on a road running north-west and south-east. Finding we had not sufficient men to form a defensive flank, a further withdrawal was ordered to Jew Hill, east of St. Julien. From this point a large enemy counter-attack was observed commencing. This also came from a north-easterly direction, and was apparently simultaneous with that from the south-east affecting the 1/4th Loyal North Lancs.--the battalion on our right. This counter-attack was overwhelming in its strength. It had been preceded by four enemy aircraft, flying low over our advanced positions and firing Very lights and machine-guns. The lights were apparently the call for artillery cooperation. They were answered by the opening of fire by heavy guns which dealt with individual points. Owing to the general disorganization caused by the very heavy casualties, troops on the whole front of this unit had now to commence a general withdrawal. Isolated points, however, held out most gallantly and held up the advance of the enemy while consolidation on or about the Black Line was completed by troops in rear and whilst the withdrawal of the remainder was safely effected. A small strong point situated west of Schuler Farm was held by one hundred and thirty men of this Battalion, and the 1/8 (Irish) Battalion, King's Liverpool Regiment and with them Captain Bodington, [-- Attachment #2: hackmatack.jpg --] [-- Type: image/jpeg, Size: 8840 bytes --]
An alpha release of GNATS has been uploaded to ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/gnats. The GNATS team is working on releasing 4.2 and would like your help ironing out the bugs. From the NEWS file: GNATS 4.1.999 (Pre-release-candidate), September 2007 ===================================================== Version 4.1.999 is an alpha release that contains many bug-fixes release and copyright license upgrade to GNU General Public License v3 and GNU Library General Public Library v3. It includes the vulnerabilities fixes intended to be released in August 2005. A Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures candidate [CAN-2005-2180] was reported for a local security exploit over the misuse of setuid binaries for manipulating local databases. The Makefiles have been altered to discontinue using the setuid bit. The suggested manner in which to use a local database is to use an unprivileged user in combination with sudo, or to create a dedicated filesystem group to which you add your "responsible" team members. Alternatively, you could operate exclusively through the network interface. http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CAN-2005-2180 Since GNATS 4.0.0, there has been trouble trying to build the software on Solaris machines. This has now been fixed. -- Chad Walstrom <chewie@wookimus.net> http://www.wookimus.net/ assert(expired(knowledge)); /* core dump */ _______________________________________________ Info-gnats mailing list Info-gnats@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/info-gnats

STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL Tel:+27, 732-769-800 PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP Dear friend, I know you will be surprised to receive this letter. First I must introduce myself, I am Mr DIDI JONAS of the Republic of Liberia (West African Republic) and the Chief Security Adviser to Charles Taylor, former president of the Republic of Liberia, who was forced to resign on August 11,2003 by the United states Of America and other African States for the sake of peace..after fourteen years of ravaging civil war in Liberia. Charles Taylor is currently on exile. I got your address through the South African Information Exchange (S.A.I.E.).For fourteen years today there has always been growing opposition and rebellion against charles Taylor. Earlier last year the advancement of the rebels toward the capital Monrovia has been unstoppable because of the support the rebels receive from countries which are against Taylor and his policies. Due to this war on the 23rd Febuaury,2003, I was mandated by the president to proceed to South Africa, to purchase ammunition from the Arms Manufacturing Company In South Africa (ARMSCO) to fight the rebels. This mandate and instruction was backed up with US$52. Million (Fifty Two Million United States Dollars) in cash, and was delivered by diplomatic immunity into South Africa. I have already purchased the first batch of ammunition at the sum of US$30 Million (Thirty Million United States Dollars), which was delivered in June, and was negotiating for the purchase of the second batch when the president was forced to go on exile.I saw this as a golden opportunity to divert this money. I have already deposited this balance of US$22 Million (Twenty two Million United States Dollars) with a security Company, without declaring the actual content of the consignment. I am presently residing here as a refugee.. The financial laws of South Africa do not allow a refugee to operate an account. In view of this, coupled with the way the money was acquired, I have decided not to invest this fund in South Africa, and solicit for the assistance of a reliable and trustworthy international businessman who can assist me to transfer this fund overseas for investment. For your efforts, I am prepared to offer you 25% of the total sum while if you will assist me transfer this money into your overseas account. I have also set aside 5% of the total money for expenses that might be incurred during the process of this transfer, and 70% will be for my investment in a profitable venture in your country or anywhere else you may advice. From the above, you will understand that my entire life and future depends on this amount, as such I shall be very grateful if you can assist me. Please note that this transaction is risk-free. The major thing I demand from you is absolute assurance that the money will be safe when transferred into your account. If you can be of assistance, kindly contact me using the above phone number or my email address. Also send your private fax and phone numbers for easier communication and confidentiality of this transaction. Yours Sincerely, DIDI JONAS.
