When people create new PR's I get the problem that GNATS produces
garbled mail addresses. It seems that these addresses are the
concatenation of:
- the principal contact mentioned in the submitters file
- the responsible person from the PR's category
- any mail adresses appearing in the notify fields

for example:
from "submitters"
drexler:Hans Drexler:none:1:drexler:tvngeo:

from the file "categories"
WOZteam:GeoTax WOZ team client:bbmgr:tvngeo,maxim,helpdesk

Then a PR filed for category WOZteam send by committer "drexler" causes
an e-mail to be sent to:

drexlertvngeotvngeo (invalid e-mail address)
tvngeotvngeo (invalid e-mail address)

(below is an exerpt from the mail log file).

Does somebody have a clue what is happening here?

We use gnats 3.113 on FreeBSD and sendmail. All names have local mail
accounts.

I haven't seem something like this yet.

    HD> We use gnats 3.113

Unfortunately, GNATS 3.113 is no longer maintained, we focus on getting
released GNATS 4.

Ok. I will download and install gnats 4 from the CVS repository to find
out if the problem dissapears. If the problem remains, I will report it
to the list.

Thanks for your response.

Hi

I've tried and changed the security on my database by restricting the IP
address in the file gnatsd.conf.

I also want to restrict a user to have only view access in the gnatsd.acces
file.

When i try and log in i get the follwing error:

Error: Couldn't connect to gnats server

host localhost, port 1529
access denied

Why is this?

Plus it seems that the userid can override the ip address ie the access file
can override the conf file..............does this make sense??????????????

Please help

You probably did not list localhost (or 127.0.0.1) in
gnatsd.conf, and have an entry of "*:deny:".

(The following applies to 3.113; it might have changed with 4.x)
The check for the IP address is done when the client tries to
establish the connection, i.e., before user authentication can
happen. If the access level for the client machine is "deny",
then the connection is rejected (this seems to have happened with
localhost).

If the access level for the client machine is at least "none",
then a user (or gnatsweb or some other program on behalf of the
user) gets the opportunity to log in. The access level
(permissions) of the user are the *maximum* of the access levels
granted to the client machine in gnatsd.conf and granted to the
userid in gnatsd.access.
