I recommend moving to autoconf 2.59 and consider a transition to
automake 1.9.3.

Well, you may do well to consider making sure that the documentation
still looks correct when using something like the makeinfo that comes
with texinfo-4.7 (released 2004-04-10) which is hte latest release of
the texinfo software.
