included patches kword-1.1-beta3-fix.patch and killustrator-1.1-beta3-fix.patch
patched the files using cat {patch} | patch -p0 in respective directories

I tried this initially using the ./configure --enable-final flag and that is what initially failed it.  However, I thought this was a problem so I rm config.cache and then ./configure.  The problem repeated itself..
