I have no implemented a gsl-devel (aka gsl-"beta") port in MacPorts  
for easy testing of beta versions on Mac OS X.
Simply sync your macports installation, then
   sudo port build gsl-devel
   sudo port test gsl-devel
to run all the GSL unit tests.

If you want to use it in your own programs
   sudo port deactivate gsl
   sudo port install gsl-devel
