If you are building on a unix (linux, hpux, aix, solaris, etc), it certainly sounds like you do not have permission to create /usr/local/info. Either run make install as root or reconfigure and build using the "--prefix" (and, optionally) the "--exec-prefix" options to configure. This will allow you to install into a directory of your choice. Keith
