Well, I successfully compiled libgcj with the latest
gcc 3.2 snapshot. So gcj 3.1 and 3.2 can run in
cygwin.
I use Windows XP Pro with the latest Cygwin dist.
Here the method :
1- NTFS seems to be required.
2- set CYGWIN=check_case:strict before running your
shell.
3- apply the two small patches I submitted.
4- run configure --enable-libgcj
--enable-languages=c,c++,java
5- run make AR_FLAGS=crP bootstrap
6- run make
Enjoy !

Excellent, thanks for the info.
Did you happen to try a "make check"? Does this build use threads?

I'm building it right now and will do a check later. Perhaps it's done
in the morning (+8 hors from now) because at that time I'm off to a workshop
and won't be back 'til Friday evening... I'll post to gcc-testresults.
Cheers,

I'm in the middle of bootstrapping the latest 3.2 CVS trunk with the
latest Cygwin on Windows 98. It is taking quite a while (on my old 266
MHz machine), but for the first time ever, I have actually reached the
point in the build where the library .java files are compiling without
error. So, it looks like it may be possible to build gcj on cygwin with
a FAT system, after all.
I have not been able to get the testsuite to run on my system (problems
with setting up tcl, and therefore dejagnu), so I won't be able to
report on that. But once the bootstrap completes, and the class
libraries exist, I will let you know the result of compiling and running
a "hello world" program.
