Well, it's just compiled with

  gcj -Djava.class.path=$(ECJ_JAR)

It's a longstanding bug that ecj1 is not precompiled: it's interpreted
from the jarfile.  If we fix that bug by precompiling ecj1, then this
other bug will be fixed too.
