I am still using my own patched copy of the released 5.1 version.
Should I start using trunk instead for development purposes?

Hopefully the gcc-5-branch now has everything you need; it may be best
to use that prior to the release of gcc-5.2, since there's less
unrelated churn going on there (trunk sees dozens of commits a day, and
sometimes breaks; the gcc-5-branch is more conservative).
