I get some makeinfo-related errors for the doc directory. An excerpt is below. >From what I can tell based on diff'ing the old (v. 2.1) and new kawa.texi files, it appears related to lack of support for @sub and @sup in older texinfo versions. I'm running on Debian Jessie/Stable, which has texinfo version 5.2, which is probably too old.
