Subject: [PATCH 5/5] ia64: Use generic exp10f
Date: Thu,  9 Apr 2020 16:59:45 -0300	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <20200409195945.10393-5-adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org> (raw)
In-Reply-To: <20200409195945.10393-1-adhemerval.zanella@linaro.org>

The generic implementation is slight worse (Itanium(R) Processor 9020):

Before new code:
  "exp10f": {
   "": {
    "duration": 3.52876e+08,
    "iterations": 2.1456e+07,
    "max": 232.907,
    "min": 7.766,
    "mean": 16.4465
   }
  }

With new code:
  "exp10f": {
   "": {
    "duration": 3.67279e+08,
    "iterations": 2.1456e+07,
    "max": 220.718,
    "min": 15.503,
    "mean": 17.1178
   }
  }

However it fixes all the issues on both:

  math/test-float-exp10
  math/test-float32-exp10

(all the issues wrong results for non default rounding modes).

Checked on ia64-linux-gnu.

-// Background
-//
-// Implementation
-//
-// Let x= (K + fh + fl + r)/log2(10), where
-// K is an integer, fh= 0.b1 b2 b3 b4 b5,
-// fl= 2^{-5}* 0.b6 b7 b8 b8 b10 (fh, fl >= 0),
-// and |r|<2^{-11}
-// Th is a table that stores 2^fh (32 entries) rounded to
-// double extended precision (only mantissa is stored)
-// Tl is a table that stores 2^fl (32 entries) rounded to
-// double extended precision (only mantissa is stored)
-//
-// 10^x is approximated as
-// 2^K * Th [ f ] * Tl [ f ] * (1+c1*r+c2*r^2)
-
-// Note there are only 10 non-zero values that produce an exact result:
-//  1.0, 2.0, ... 10.0.
-// We test for these cases and use s1 to avoid setting the inexact flag.
