I cannot access gcc.gnu.org via a web browser from the Miami area, either
via Bellsouth DSL or (now) Comcast cable. I can get it just fine from
the Unix boxes in NYC.
My current IP address (via Comcast) is 71.196.47.143.
The problem appears to be DNS. From NYC, I see gcc.gnu.org as 209.132.176.174.
But from here, it shows as 12.107.209.250.
Does this make sense to anybody?

Sounds like the static-"/etc/hosts"-entry problem you noticed on
some other box of yours some time ago, IIRC right after the move
(of both location and IP-address from the latter to the former
of gcc.gnu.org/sourceware.org).
If there's no gcc.gnu.org in your /etc/hosts, it might help
troubleshooting to show the output of "dig gcc.gnu.org", in
case your *ISP* has the outdated DNS entry.
