Your input is solicited on the following
page at http://sourceware.cygnus.com/sourceware/rename.html - respond
as described or to this list, as appropriate:

                              Renaming Sourceware

   Background: sourceware needs a new name - here are some criteria:
     * does not infringe on anyone's trademark (like sourceware does)
     * easy to remember
     * easy to pronounce
     * reflect Red Hat's involvement/support
     * any other suggested criteria?

   The process as it is currently planned is:
    1. Don't combine the rename with other activities such as hardware or
       software upgrades. Let's bite off something we can chew, get it
       done, then look at whatever else we need to address.
    2. Make a list of suggested names (the list so far is below, send
       your submissions to sourcemaster@cygnus.com or just check them in
       if you have access).
    3. Try to reach a decision. The Powers That Be are thinking of just
       conducting a vote (on the theory that it is largely a question of
       preference), although we haven't decided for sure whether we plan
       a more deliberate/structured thing.
    4. Implement the rename. This is a lot of work, in that the name
       appears many places, but it is straightforward. Plan is to do it
       the same way as egcs.cygnus.com -> gcc.gnu.org, with the old name
       working for an extended period of time.

Suggested names

     * Sources.redhat.com (can be pronounced "sources.redhat").

Could we somehow fit the feeling that these are actively developed projects
into the name?

	source-projects.redhat.com (probably too long)
	source-forum.redhat.com
	source-home.redhat.com

(or without the dashes)

Thanks for the suggestions; I've added them to
http://sourceware.cygnus.com/sourceware/rename.html
(and enclosed the current list at the end of this message)

Please keep those cards and letters coming. I'm looking for (a) more
suggested names, and (b) suggestions about process/criteria/&c (I'd
like to collect a bunch of suggested names before we start arguing too
hard about which ones are good. But I do want to know whether I've
missed any steps in terms of what needs to happen or factors we need
to consider).

   Sources.redhat.com (can be pronounced "sources.redhat").
   source-projects.redhat.com (probably too long)
   source-forum.redhat.com
   source-home.redhat.com
   Any of the above without the dashes
   "Red Hat Workshop" (workshop.redhat.com)
   "The Open Source Garage" (garage.redhat.com)
   "Red Hut" (hut.redhat.com)
   "Red Shed" (shed.redhat.com)

Or "woodshed", as in "I have to take that patch out to the woodshed".

:-)

There's also "barn", or "sourcebarn" (your one-stop download center!),
or "sourcesilo", with double-entrendre possibilities. "sourceholm"?

Or recycle "well", as a nod to the old online site, or perhaps
"Well of Sources", or "sink", or "cesspool".

Hm, "sourcepool" is pretty good, and can be mispronounced as "cesspool"
in occasional frustration.
