I really think it is a good idea to turn off DNS lookups in httpd.
Whenever I run 'top', it always seems like one of the processes in the
top ten is dnscache. Some of that is probably due to qmail but a lot is
probably due to httpd.
The last time Jason suggested this, I think someone from eCos may
have objected but it seems to me that we aren't really losing anything
by turning this off. If you want to see host names, then parse the
log file and fill the info back in. Just don't run this task on
sources.redhat.com.
So, unless there are objections, I'm going to turn this feature off.

Hi -
On that subject, I remember also speaking out in favor of keeping
the DNS lookups. In hindsight though, the information hasn't been
valuable enough to justify wasting electrons on its collection.
Please go ahead and shut it down.

The reason the eCos group wanted it was because we had log analysis
scripts that used it. But these don't run any more either because they
contributed to sourceware load[1], so I have no objections.

[1] They didn't use to because they were only meant to run at off-peak
times, but so much else happens at off-peak times now, that it lasted many
hours :-|.
